Reflecting their strong commitment to their communities, WAICU-member colleges and universities have stepped up and to support their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the midst of making rapid changes to academic and campus life, colleges have also launched many initiatives to address needs beyond the boundaries of campuses.
For example, Mount Mary University’s fashion design faculty developed and distributed a pattern and instructions for masks that were sewn for a local hospital. An adjunct professor of costume design at Beloit College has sewn around 70 masks. Herzing University made a donation to support a large order of face shields for health care workers produced by a local manufacturer, and Ripon College used 3D printers in its Department of Physics to make face shields. Lawrence University loaned one of its residence halls to the City of Appleton for use by city personnel who are working on the front lines. Alverno College, Bellin College, Carroll University, Edgewood College, Marquette University, the Milwaukee School of Engineering, St. Norbert College, Viterbo University, and Wisconsin Lutheran College were among the WAICU members who donated personal protective equipment (PPE) from their science and health care programs for the greater good of their communities.

WAICU members are private colleges, yet they are proud to serve public purposes.
