School Counselors

The Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU) wants to work with you as you help your students find the right college or university. There are several services we offer. If you or your students have questions, please contact the WAICU Student Access Center at 1-800-4-DEGREE or studentaccess@waicu.org.
For information on our upcoming spring Illinois workshop, please follow the above link.
The Guide offers information on all 20 private nonprofit colleges and universities in Wisconsin, including facts and figures and majors offered.
PrivateCollegeZone.org is WAICU’s free interactive Web site that aids prospective students in the college search, selection, and application process.  Students receive FREE test prep, and the “Student Planner” lets students compare the courses they have taken in high school with college admission requirements, forging a pre-college bond with campuses of interest.  Click here to print out handouts for students describing PrivateCollegeZone.org.
Private College Week - July 9-14, 2012. Students and families are invited to tour Wisconsin's private nonprofit colleges and universities during Wisconsin Private College Week. During this "open house" week, learn more about Wisconsin's private nonprofit colleges and universities. Call ahead to any campus and reserve your space. During Private College Week, receive a waiver of application fees at each campus you visit!
View and print WAICU's Quick Facts. It is a short overview of the 20 private nonprofit colleges and universities in Wisconsin.
View and print off a camera-ready listing of the 2011-2012 open houses and events at Wisconsin's 20 private nonprofit colleges and universities.
WAICU’s quarterly newsletter contains a special section with regular features for high school guidance counselors.
XAP for Counselors
This new feature is a module to help guidance counselors track their students' application to colleges; it can be found at http://www.xap.com/.
Wisconsin Education Fairs
Students will find a representative of the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU) at all Wisconsin Education Fairs around the state.  The WAICU Student Access Center serves as a centralized resource at the college fairs to assist students in finding information on majors, financial aid, and admission requirements.  Find a fair near you at www.wefs.org and speak with WAICU about the accessibility, affordability, and value of a private college education.
Brochure for Spanish-speaking parents
WAICU's independent colleges and universities serve many students of Hispanic origin. Recognizing that parents of such students may be Spanish speaking, we have developed this brochure to explain the benefits and appropriateness of these institutions for their sons and daughters.
Each summer, counselors are invited to register for a weeklong College Seminar tour that includes visits to colleges and universities in Wisconsin and neighboring states.  Participants can earn 3 DPI-approved credits through Marian University.  For more information, check out the website www.marianuniversity.edu/cst, call 920-923-7650 or email cst@marianuniversity.edu.
Some may think that the middle school years are too early to think about college. However, professional educators know, and study after study confirms, that high school may be too late—especially for first-generation and disadvantaged students for whom college and the financial aid process are a great mystery. WAICU operates a statewide student access center, and we are committed to helping you meet the challenge of expanding educational opportunity for all.

This is the "download and print" version of the WAICU Middle School E-Book.  The e-book was designed to help middle schoolers dream and plan for their future.  Visit PrivateCollegeZone.org to access the book in its electronic form.

The Foster Youth to College Advisory Group gathers resources focused on foster youth and the unique opportunities available to them in achieving a college education.  Click here to download a list of WAICU members' liaisons familiar with opportunities for foster youth; these liaisons can help with the barriers students may face in pursuing a college degree.
Wisconsin eTranscript Initiative
Approximately 40 Wisconsin high schools are now signed up to send transcripts electronically through Docufide, and all colleges and universities in the state—private and public—are primed to receive them.   Students can request transcripts 24/7 through their high school website and have them sent to postsecondary institutions, scholarship funds, the NCAA, or employers.  Best of all, the student gets e-mail confirmation at each step in the process.  High school counselors report that e-transcripts save them administrative time, allowing them to concentrate on more important student matters.  The Wisconsin eTranscript Initiative is a joint project of the Department of Public Instruction, the UW System, the Wisconsin Technical College System, and the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.  For more information on the Wisconsin eTranscript Initiative, click here.
